Karsten is responsible for developing and following up on Norges Vels agricultural program in North-Mozambique. Since 2003 Norges Vel has helped the local farmer owned company IKURU with producing seeds, bringing their produce to market and securing better income for farmers in the region. The project also supports farmers who are interesting in becoming a cooperative.

The investments in small scale production and farmers made it possible to launch the cashew program in collaboration with Brynild Gruppen that own "Den Lille N√łttefabrikken". The program will improve the agricultural sector and give incentives so that farmers can increase their production.

My Norges Vel

Ever since the start of my social scence degree at the University of Oslo, I have wanted to work with a varied and fascinating Africa. The work with North, South and East-Africa humbles me due to the efforts put in by our partners to build a better future for the local communities. It is a fascinating continent with enormous potential.

The agricultural sector will continue to be the most important source of employment and value creation for decades to come. Norges Vel's role will be to unlock the potential and build partnerships to deliver to market and make sure that the farmers increase their production capacity and income.
